About Us

We opened Taste of Portuguese, an authentic Portuguese restaurant in Sydney with one objective in mind: to deliver the taste of Portugal to Sydney. Growing up, we felt there was something unique about how it brought people together. From the smokey aromas of grilled piri piri chicken to the comfort of slow cooked stews, our meals are inspired by recipes we have enjoyed for decades.

Opening this place was about more than just cuisine. It was about sharing our culture, tales and traditions, which had been passed down through generations. Every recipe on our menu contains a touch of home and we take delight in preparing each meal the way it should be, fresh, uncomplicated and full of flavour.
We have created a place where everyone can feel welcome, whether you are here for a quick bite or a full dining experience. If you are new to Portuguese food or missing the taste of home, we invite you to join us.

Signature Dishes

A Taste of Portugal in Every Bite

Piri Piri Chicken

Piri Piri Chicken

Our Piri Piri Chicken is a strong and flavorful dish that exemplifies Portuguese cuisine. The chicken is marinated in a unique blend of spices, garlic and lemon before grilling to perfection, resulting in crispy skin and juicy, tender meat. The distinctive piri piri sauce is spicy but not overpowering, with notes of smokiness. This dish is served with golden fries or a fresh salad and is popular among people who enjoy a little heat. It is more than simply a dinner; it's an experience that brings the spicy flavours of Portugal to your table.

Bacalhau

Bacalhau a Bras

Bacalhau, or salted cod, is a popular Portuguese dish, and our Bacalhau a Bras is not to be missed. This popular meal mixes shredded salt cod, crispy potatoes, eggs, onions and olives, all sauteed together to create a beautifully creamy, flavourful sauce. Every bite, garnished with fresh parsley and a touch of lemon, is an explosion of texture and flavour. It represents Portugal's rich marine history and passion for basic yet colourful cuisine. Whether you are new to Bacalhau or a long time lover, our version will keep you coming back for more.

Pastel de Nata

Pastel de Nata

A Portuguese lunch is not complete without a Pastel de Nata and ours are as authentic as they get. These creamy custard tarts are cooked in a flaky, buttery pastry shell then dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar to achieve the ideal combination of sweetness and warmth. Crispy on the outside and silky on the inside, they are best served with a cup of coffee or tea, making them the ideal Portuguese dessert. Whether you are finishing your dinner or enjoying in a midday pleasure, our Pastel de Nata will whisk you away to the cafes of Lisbon.
